NIKE Air Max 1

The shoe, presented to the public as a running shoe until 2018, also determines a specific lifestyle. Two men (besides Nike) are at the origin of the creation of this icon. Frank Rudy is responsible for an incredible technological revolution. Compressing gas into urethane capsules and using it to give the shoe better cushioning without increasing its weight is a technology he brought from NASA, where he worked as an engineer. The other man could only be Tinker Hatfield. An innovative designer working for Nike, trained as an architect. This could be the reason why the design of the first Air Max was inspired by the architecture of the Center Georges Pompidou building in Paris, which presents itself as a sort of "inside out". It reveals the internal construction, which also applies to the Air Max 1, the first shoes with air capsule technology. It was 1987, even though the system had been used since 1978 (Air Tailwind model).
